Activator 440 W | Adhesion Activator for Direct Glass Installation Applications, No Primer Required

Activator 440 W is a specially formulated adhesion promoter for pre-treating specific surfaces used in the automotive industry to improve the bonding strength of U-Seal and SiMP-Seal windshield adhesives. Its short evaporation time and wide application temperature range (from -15°C to 35°C) make it suitable for use in various environmental conditions.

  • Float glass and ceramic-coated glass (frit)

  • Metals such as steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, electroplated steel, etc.

  • Surface and paint coatings (epoxy and polyester-coated steel sheets)

  • Cut surfaces of PU or MS-based adhesives for replacement

Application

Activator 440 W is used to clean and enhance adhesion on various non-porous surfaces, particularly glass and ceramic-coated glass, metals, ceramics, and painted surfaces. For automotive applications, please refer to NPT’s guidelines for the procedure on automotive glass. Activator 440 W can be used to improve adhesion on the following surfaces:

  • Float glass and ceramic-coated glass (frit)

  • Metals such as steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, electroplated steel, etc.

  • Surface and paint coatings (epoxy and polyester-coated steel sheets)

  • Cut surfaces of PU or MS-based adhesives for replacement

Instructions for Use

Ensure thorough cleaning of the surface. Dip a lint-free cloth or soft sponge into Activator 440 W to wipe the surface, removing impurities, and allow it to dry for 3 minutes, no longer than 2 hours. If adhesive application has not been performed within 2 hours, the surface can be re-activated by applying a second treatment of Activator 440 W, up to one additional application. Ensure the activator is completely dry and non-tacky before proceeding with bonding. Activator 440 W has a consumption rate of approximately 40 ml/m². Close the bottle immediately after use. If the Activator 440 W bottle is left open in the air for an extended period, the liquid may become cloudy and lose its effectiveness, in which case do not use the cloudy material. Ensure the bottle is tightly sealed after each use to prevent this. Use within one week after opening. Preliminary testing is recommended before application on surfaces, including tests for pressure cracking. Do not use Activator 440 W to remove or treat U-Seal or SiMP adhesives.

Cleaning Instructions

Clean tools using acetone or solvent. When the material is uncured, it can be wiped off with paper or cloth. Once cured, the product can only be removed mechanically. Avoid direct skin contact by wearing latex, rubber, or polyethylene gloves. If the product contacts skin, remove immediately and wash with soap and water.

Storage Instructions

Activator 440 W can be stored for 12 months in its original (unopened) packaging at temperatures between 10°C and 25°C in a cool, dry place. Storage temperature should not exceed 25°C for extended periods. Keep away from damp areas, direct sunlight, and heat sources.
