Application Instructions

Surfaces to be treated must be completely clean, dry, and free from dust or grease. SiMP-Seal 20 has excellent adhesion without the need for a primer on most common building materials. Therefore, if the surface is properly prepared and reinforced, the use of a primer is unnecessary. However, certain types of bricks, natural stones, plastics, paints, coatings, and other surface treatments may create difficult-to-bond surfaces. Due to the unpredictable nature of these surfaces, preliminary testing should be performed. Precast concrete panels using form release agents other than polyethylene film must be cleaned by sandblasting or mechanical grinding and be free from dust.

Recommended application temperature: 15°-25°C. For easier use or in cold weather, we recommend storing the product at approximately 25°C before use. To ensure the sealant can move freely in joints, it is important that the adhesive does not bond to the bottom of the joint. To properly create the joint, a polyethylene backing rod should be placed at the appropriate depth.

If necessary, apply the appropriate primer to the joint faces and wait for sufficient drying time to avoid solvent retention, which could cause air bubbles in uncured sealant under increasing temperatures. For optimal performance, the sealant should be applied when the joint is at the midpoint of its designed expansion and contraction range. Press the sealant into the joint, ensuring it is in full contact with both sides of the joint and the backing rod at the bottom. Hold the nozzle in the sealant and continue pumping evenly to avoid air pockets. Avoid overlapping the sealant to prevent trapping air.

Shaping and finishing should be done while the sealant is still uncured. SiMP-Seal 20 can be painted over. It is recommended to test paint compatibility through preliminary testing. Take care when using alcohol or alkyd resin paints as they may affect the curing process and extend the drying time of the paint. The paint’s hardness and thickness can reduce the sealant’s flexibility and cause cracking.

Avoid curing in the presence of curing silicone sealants. Do not contact cleaning solvents during curing. When applying the sealant, make sure no air gets trapped. Since the system cures through moisture, ensure adequate exposure to air.

Cleaning Instructions

Clean tools used with acetone or solvents. When the sealant is still uncured, it can be wiped off with paper or fabric. Once cured, it can only be removed through mechanical methods. Avoid direct contact with skin by wearing latex, rubber, or polyethylene gloves. If the sealant comes into contact with skin, wash immediately with soap and water.

Storage Instructions

SiMP-Seal 20 can be stored for 12 months if kept in its original packaging (unopened) at temperatures between 10°C and 25°C, in a dry, cool place. Storage temperatures should not exceed 25°C for prolonged periods. Keep away from damp areas, direct sunlight, and heat sources.
